Current work
- My present work is in Permaculture education - teaching and convening
Permaculture introductory weekend courses and 72 or 90 hour
Permaculture Design Course in a variety of venues and formats. I am
also an active designer and consultant for various land based projects and communites
in the UK and Portugal. I am part of the UK Permaculture
Association 'Education Working Group', assisting in the development of
quality, effective Permaculture education in the UK. I also offer a personal mentoring service for individuals, and am involved
in and highly inspired by the 8 Shields Institute's 'Art of Mentoring' program, which is
currently working in the UK, building nature connection and
regenerative culture.
History - After being involved in the direct action protest movement in the
1990's for several years,I became inspired by the idea of 'Positive
impact living', and went to the first Natty Gathering at Brickhurst
farm in August 1998, where I did my Permaculture Design Course. I
then went on to co-found the Steward Community Woodland sustainable
living project in Devon, where I lived for seven years, learning to
live in community, and learning how to grow, build, compost and
manage a woodland. I left the community in late 2007 to move to
London, and now divide my time between Southern England and Portugal
- teaching, learning, designing, singing and cycling.
Qualifications -
I
completed my Permaculture Diploma in May 2007 after three and a half
years of designing, recording and learning. My Portfolio included
designs
for events, low impact building constructions, land management and
perennial gardening. I am trained and registered as a Permaculture
Diploma Tutor, now mentoring others through their DIploma journeys. I
graduated the Designed Visions 'Training
of Teachers' course in 2007 to prepare me for teaching and running courses. I also have a degree in English Literature from Cardiff University.
Experience -
I co-founded, lived in and helped develop a UK eco community,
learning about myself, the realities and joys of land-based simple
living and how to live in community. I have been actively teaching
since 2007 - I have convened and taught 'Introduction to Permaculture'
courses (2 days) and full Permaculture Design courses (90 hours over 2
weeks or a series of weekends), alongside more informal workshops at
events and gatherings, working in partnership with various
organisations and teaching cooperatives.
I have written and self produced 2 albums of acoustic
songs about low impact living, life and permaculture, which i regularly use in my teaching work and in community living. I
have also worked in a community recycling centre and as a display stand
fabricator for a small London jewellery company. I now teach, design
and stay at a few different communities in England and Portugal.
